Mocha Emporium

by: Jessica Karrasch

Mocha Emporium is a family run coffee shop located in Hadley, Massachusetts at the Hampshire Mall.

When I visited the shop i had the pleasure of talking with Dan Al-Jermozi who is the son of the owner, Muhammad. The location at 367 Russell Street is the original shop which was opened in 1995 by Dan's uncle Abed. They now have another location at the Eastfield Mall in Springfield, Ma.

Mocha Emporium offers a very large selection of different kinds of drink such as coffee, esspresso, lattes, tea, iced coffee and ice blended coffee just to name a few. What makes them different is their massive selection of different coffees which they offer over 25 different types and flavors! They get their coffee from a distributor located in Brooklyn, NY.

Their most popular type of drink is the Blended Iced Coffees which you can get in different flavors such as Chocolate Peanut Butter, Ice Mocha, Peppermint Mocha and Vanilla. Recently Dan also learned how to make London Fog Tea as coffee is not their only specialty.

The atmosphere inside the shop is very welcoming! It's not a very busy shop but it also is not dead. This can probably be accounted for the fact that it is located just steps away from a the food court inside the mall and is definitely more of a grab and go kind of place. The do have a few tables and chairs but most people are just making a quick stop while shopping. One advantage for the shop is the fact that they are the only coffee shop in the mall, which is also the only mall in the 5 college area of Western Mass which includes, UMass Amherst, Amherst College, Smith College, Hampshire College and Mount Holyoke College which means lots of college students come through here to do their shopping and keep the coffee shop busy!

Drinks are not the only thing you can purchase at Mocha Emporium. They also have a small case filled with different bakery foods! On top of that they also sell coffee essentials such as coffer makers, thermoses and flavor syrups!
