They recently opened a new slack tide cafe at Derby Street in Hingham Massachusetts. Overall, the cafes are very clean and maintained and run very well, and my experience there was well worth the drive from Bridgewater.

Carmela Coffee Company in Pompano Beach, FL

On your way to sit and relax on the beach there is a small coffee shop in a plaza. It is a little Costa Rican coffee shop that serves authentic coffee off of their coffee farm in Costa Rica. The baristas talk to everyone who comes in and out in both English and Spanish to reach the majority of the community in the area.

There are many new foods to try as well as a variety of drinks. It is a quiet shop with many locals coming in and out. There were always at least 5 people in the coffee shop. There was a group of people who were having a meeting for work and another group grabbing an afternoon coffee with their friends. They offer many authentic Costa Rican treats and if you go in on holidays they give you a little treat with your coffee or food.

Carmela coffee shops are mostly woman owned and was named to honor hardworking, courageous and tireless women. They care a lot about their community and make sure that everything they serve is to their standards.

The decor inside the shop gave it a nice relaxing and beach like scene. There were bags of coffee from their farm that was used as a decoration and to show the authenticity of the coffee.

BarnHouse Napa Brews

Barnhouse Napa Brews: Located in Napa Valley, CA

Hours: Monday- Wednesday 7:00am- 8:00pm
          Thursday- Sunday 7:00am- 10:00pm

This coffee shop is run and owned by two best-friends Adam Housley and Eric Barnes. When many cafes were shutting down they decided to open their doors in October of 2021. BarnHouse has a welcoming environment where friends, family and even dogs were stopping by. The menu has a large variety of coffees, ice coffees, expressos and specialty drinks. I went in beginning of March, and got to try the special St. Patrick Day drinks. Others in my party enjoyed, a meed flight, local beers, and other fun drinks they had.

They also had pastries cooked from a local women who baked British food for the shop.  Due to this they have a different variety of food each day depending on what she cooks that day. I had a lemon blueberry muffin and it was fantastic. We also got some of the different English meat pies for all of us to split.

BarnHouse has all different types of beans and blends. You can grab a bag of the beans that interest you and the barista will grind them depending on what type of blend the costumer wants. I liked this because when they asked me I was unsure what I wanted and they were able to tell me what would work best for how I was using the coffee, and what coffee it was. They had local blends as well as global blends to chose from.
This Cafe is interesting because it serves two purposes, in the morning to early afternoon it is for coffee and families to start their day or grab a pick me up. It is also advertised at night with different activities each night and a game room called "Shack In The Back". Adam and Eric wanted to create a space that can be used for different things throughout the day and night. Social Media is a large part of how they share the magic of what happens through those doors. On Instagram they post who's working that day and other things happening and other events. They are also good about reposting costumers post about the shop.
The baristas were excellent, they greeted you with a big smile and were not shy on giving input on what you should get. We knew some of them from pervious visits to the tasting room that Adam owns only a couple of doors down. Many work in both places, and create that connection between the two places, but even the new ones were welcoming and treated us like friends. The 3 times I visited each time there were different workers behind the counter. Each knew a lot about what they were doing and made very good drinks.

Barnhouse Napa Brews is located in the "Down Town" area of Napa. About a 5 min walk to Starbucks, most of the stores are located here. I saw many people walking around the stores with coffee from BarnHouse.

Cup 2 Cafe

by Hannah Pires

Cup 2 Cafe is a local coffee shop in Wareham, Ma. Although Cup 2 is open all year. It is predominately a summer destination. Cup 2 is located in the perfect spot for tourists heading down to Cape Cod.

Cup 2 Cafe offers a variety of Breakfast sandwiches. And different coffee selections. There's a choice of flavored shots of the coffee has the flavored already brewed in. Also Cup 2 has a signature drink called "The Cup", which is espresso, milk, cream, and caramel.

Cup 2 gets their coffee from New England Coffee. The coffee is really consistent. The baristas make it the same every time you go. I think this is a plus with a local coffee shop because the bigger chains such a Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks lack consistency. You never know what you're going to get when you order from a big chain. It never tastes the same!

Cup 2 has a very welcoming vibe. The same workers work everyday so they get to know the customers on a more personal level. Cup 2 has many regular customers that the workers know by name and know different customers orders by heart.

Cup 2 Cafe has a great outdoor seating area. It's so nice to sit out there in the summer. They have beautiful flowers growing and the landscaping draws more people to this cafe. The overall atmosphere of the cafe is relaxing and calm. People either sit inside or outside depending on the weather. Most of the locals know each other so it's a really nice spot for a quick bite and to catch up with friends.

Pie in the Sky

P
ie in the Sky in Woods Hole, MA is a cute and cozy coffee shop that roasts their coffee on site. They offer fresh beans if you'd like to roast your own coffee, which can be ordered through them.

Pie in the Sky features a large roaster in the back right corner of the small yet inviting space, adding to their unique environment that fits right in on Cape Cod. Most of the shops around there tend to aim to have a certain cozy and homey aesthetic that Pie in the Sky achieves without trying too hard.

They also offer a variety of baked goods including very large cookies and other delicious looking pastries.

Most of the staff are younger, college aged individuals who are friendly and inviting. The customers vary more in age and tend to sit down to enjoy their drinks and food, often with a friend or family member sitting with them.

Pie in the Sky also offers an order pickup option for people on the go, so everybody is able to enjoy fresh coffee. Their menu lists the country where each variety of fair trade coffee is from and the level of roast on each coffee.

Overall, the coffee shop is a great place to stop in and grab a snack and drink that you know is incredibly fresh and fairly grown.

There is a Dunkin Donuts about 10 minutes away from Pie in the Sky, which is closer to the more populated area than this café. This is a very popular location because it's so close to the boats that many people rely on to get to and from work.
