History

Kushala opened in 2015 and this was the first location that the owners opened. The owners are a wife and a husband. The wife, Dalia is from Mexico and the husband, Vinod is from India. They both came to Boston in 2005 to get their Master's degree in business. Kushala comes from the Hindi language, and it can mean happy, expert, and safe which perfectly embodies the cafe itself.

All About the Coffee

This cafe doesn't advertise a specific type of coffee but rather it advertises online on their own website. On the café's website it says that they use only the finest high-class, specialty-grade beans harvested sustainably worldwide. It takes a lot of hands to create a great cup of coffee. And that coffee tastes even better when you know it's supporting stronger communities for the farmers and cooperatives that harvest them. That's why we partner with Crimson Cup: our roaster and business consultant. Crimson Cup's Friend2Farmer® coffees are harvested by small-plot coffee farmers. They're carefully selected for exceptional quality and then roasted in Columbus, Ohio to preserve the integrity of the bean's flavor and the farmer's hard work.

My Experience & My Opinion

I went to Kushala on a Wednesday afternoon after picking up my brother from school. We arrived around 3:20pm. At first, I had no idea where it was located but then I realized that it was very centralized around a very busy area in Stoneham. It is right by the post office, a school, a church and various stores and salons which made it an ideal location for business. I arrived and saw that they had a beautiful area to sit outside once the nicer weather came and then when a went in, I realized that even in the nicer weather one might choose to sit inside because it is a very beautiful and calming place. It had beautiful seating all around the small place. It also had a variety of options. It had breakfast foods, lunch options, coffee, hot chocolate and everything seemed to be kid friendly which meant that even my brother got to enjoy our trip to the cafe. People that visited around the same time as me seemed to come alone but at times were just waiting for another person to join them while others just came by themselves. 

Workers at Kushala

All of the workers were very kind and patient. Two of the workers seemed to be in their mid to late twenties while the other worker seemed to be in her early to mid-thirties. Two of the workers didn't seem to fully understand the English but still knew enough to do their job and to get by while the other worker didn't talk at all, but they were still friendly and happy.
