Tucked in between Hallmark, CVS, and Roche Brothers is the modern-chic Twist Bakery Café. I
visited this café at 9 in the morning to enjoy a light breakfast and its comfortable, laid-back atmosphere.
It appeals to a wide variety of customers, as I observed a mix of men and women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s during my visit. The ambience offers a relaxing, intimate visit for those who choose to seat themselves.
The
interactions seemed easy-going, as if the employees knew the
customers from previous visits. A few women arrived together, while men were
sitting alone, working on their laptop or reading a newspaper.
After skimming the menu, listed under "Beverages" they had few options for coffee - simply hot or iced. My mom
ordered a cup of coffee, and I asked the barista if she knew what brand it was or where
the owner purchased it. She said the three kinds they currently had on hand were
Mexican, Guatemalan, and Ethiopian, and that the owner would love to answer any other questions I had.
The owner, Kathryn, explained that she meets with a small business owner from
Franklin, MA who travels the world, tasting and buying different coffees. He returns to her shop with a variety that she tries and serves to her customers.
She said that during the three years that Twist has been in business, they have used
a single, small roaster which continues to roast their coffee to perfection. They also have an Espresso machine, but they currently do not have
the staff required to provide it as an option to their customers.
Their "food philosophy" is putting flavor first: they are known for their selection of healthy and allergy-free ingredients. This includes certain menu items being free of gluten, soy, peanuts, nuts, dairy, fish & shellfish, eggs, corn syrup, artificial colors, and hydrogenated fats. The menu offers a mouthwatering selection of food: breakfast is served all day, deli sandwiches & salads for lunch, and dinner off the grill. Bonus - customers 21+ can bring their own adult beverage with no corkage fee!
I look forward to all of my future visits to Twist Bakery Café, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive, delicious coffee or meal!
